How FOX Can Fix Their Super(Human) PR Problem

Ask any Marvel fan and they will tell you that they are praying to Galactus for the day when FOX "finally" gives the rights to several characters back to Marvel. There are legions of fans who do not name a single FOX-produced superhero movie among their favorites.

Not that FOX seems to be deterred in the least. The company recently released a list of intended feature releases between now and 2017. There were several superhero movies on the list, including one as yet unnamed sequel project, and a sequel to the not yet released Fantastic Four movie. Considering how the Marvel fanboys and fangirls responded to the last pair of F4 movies, many film buffs have called out FOX for being just a tad optimistic.

But, maybe FOX will really change their luck in this space. FOX is aware of its current standing in the superhero movie marketplace -- particularly after the lackluster XMEN movies, and the spectacular response to The Avengers. Sure, fans may dream about a Marvel-produced XMEN movie, but FOX knows many will likely go see any XMEN movie released. Thus, the announcement of not one, but two, upcoming X movies (though the second is supposedly a secret) is FOX's clear attempt to reach out an optic blast olive branch.

Also, by opting to go with the reboot, clean slate approach, it's clear that FOX is at least recognizing they have made mistakes in the space. Sure, mistakes are obvious, but when a company is willing, however quietly, to cop to it, then fans are generally more willing to give them another shot. That, was step one. Step two, was an audacious goal that gave True Believers a reason to hope once more. Even if that hope is now tied to delicious rumors... and the guys who did "that" to the XMEN.
