Hype Machine calls Little Daylight a band "to watch in 2014." This is all I have to say about that:
As evidenced by their breakout track "Overdose," the band is delivering the goods - rock-synth-pop polished goodness (and I mean that as a compliment) that subtly hit you like a 2X4 at the hands of "Hacksaw" Jim Duggan. Enough with the out-of-left-field wrestling references - let's talk seriously about the band. The Brooklyn-based trio of Nikki Taylor, Matt Lewkowicz, and Eric Zeiler dropped Hello Memory earlier this summer, and it's filled with enough catchy songs for a greatest hits compilation. Since the release of the album and well before it, the band's been on a roll and I don't mean Kaiser. Little Daylight made their television debut in May on Late Night with Seth Meyers, and have been touring rigorously ever since, gaining momentum with each date and festival gig. The band recently sat down for a chat with A-Sides, and discussed all that I threw at them like a 50 Cent pitch at Citifield. Catch them on the road soon, and watch the interview (filmed by shootmepeter.com) below...like totally right now.
A-Sides "Delve Into Twelve" Countdown
Each week A-Sides unleashes its Top 12 tracks of the week AKA the "Delve Into Twelve"based on the following contributing factors: songs I'm playing out that particular week NO MATTER WHEN THEY WERE RELEASED (think overlooked songs, unreleased tracks, and old favorites), songs various publicists are trying to get me to listen to that I did and dug a bunch, posts and trends I've noticed on my friends' Facebook walls, and -- most importantly -- the songs my two-year-old son gravitates toward by stomping his feet in approval. Yeah, you read that right. This weeks follows below (LW= last week's rank).
12. "Latch" (LW-12) Disclosure/Sam Smith
11. "Another's Arms" (debut) - Coldplay
10. "Do You" (debut) - Spoon
9. "Overdose" (LW-10) - Little Daylight
8. "Beware The Dog" (LW-11) - The Griswolds
7. "Boom Clap" (LW-10) - Charli XCX
6."Get Hurt" (LW-7) - Gaslight Anthem
5. "I'm Only Joking" (LW-6) - Kongos

About A-Sides Music
Jon Chattman's "A-Sides Music" series was established in August 2011 and usually features artists (established or not) from all genres performing a track, and discussing what it means to them. This informal series focuses on the artist making art in a low-threatening, extremely informal (sometimes humorous) way. No bells, no whistles -- just the music performed in a random, low-key setting followed by an unrehearsed chat. In an industry where everything often gets overblown and over manufactured, I'm hoping this is refreshing. Artists have included: fun, Courtney Love, Air Supply, Birdy, Sharon Jones & The Dap Kings, Pharrell Williams, American Authors, Imagine Dragons, Gary Clark Jr., and more! A-Sides theme written and performed by Blondfire.
