It's documented in everything you read about Flyleaf this month, this year, last year, and probably the year before that. The hard rock act has a new singer and are currently on tour supporting a new album. So the gist is this: Longtime lead singer Lacey Mosely has been out since 2012, and Kristen May has taken over. But, let's not focus on yesterday's news, and put the focus on the music itself. Music matters. Band changes that happened two years ago don't so much. So let's move on.
Flyleaf's Between the Stars is their fourth studio album, and it's already a hit on alt and Christian rock charts. Speaking of which, while they're long dubbed as a "Christian band" they're so much more, and can't be pigeonholed into one genre. Rock. Alt rock. Hard rock. Metal. Christian. Whatever category you want to toss them into, they fit. On a related note, I should say their fourth album is among their most accessible, tightest, and enjoyable yet.
The five-member band (May, Sameer Bhattacharya, Jared Hartmann, Pat Seals, and James Culpepper) are currently on tour in support of it, and took time out of their schedule to perform two tracks for A-Sides. They also discussed working on Stars for the last couple of years, the integral part Pledge Music played into making it, and anything else that popped into the head of this guy (pointing to myself). Filmed at the Music Conservatory of Westchester in White Plains, NY, I promise you the videos below will be far more appetizing than Bob's leg. Watch. Listen. Love.

About A-Sides Music
Jon Chattman's "A-Sides Music" series was established in August 2011 and usually features artists (established or not) from all genres performing a track, and discussing what it means to them. This informal series focuses on the artist making art in a low-threatening, extremely informal (sometimes humorous) way. No bells, no whistles -- just the music performed in a random, low-key setting followed by an unrehearsed chat. In an industry where everything often gets overblown and over manufactured, I'm hoping this is refreshing. Artists have included: fun, Courtney Love, Air Supply, Birdy, Sleigh Bells, Aretha Franklin, Alice Cooper, Echosmith, Charli XCX, Jake Miller, American Authors, Imagine Dragons, Gary Clark Jr., and more! A-Sides theme written and performed by Blondfire.
